This post was fun to write – I think I actually felt my heart warm up a little. On Monday, I talked about “5 Daily Habits of Joyful People” – you can read that here! One of them was that joyful people have a thankful heart. They force themselves to pause and reflect on why they’re thankful and I think more importantly, who makes them thankful. The 10 things on my list below make me thankful and they bring me joy. I genuinely believe that God allows tiny, maybe unnoticed things happen to build up our thanks and joy. I think He does this because He loves us, because He adores us.
Jesus, Ryan, Family –> These things are for sure my priorities and absolutely what brings me the utmost joy, but the 10 things below bring me joy too, and honestly I think they’re a little slice of heaven on earth.
1.Snugs with Ryan
I don’t mind if you roll your eyes on this one. But the feeling of his stubble on my cheek, cozy with a blanket, re-watching The Office is pure heaven to me. Add a belly full of Chipotle and I’m done. Bye. Take me Lord.
2.Chatting with girlfriends over pizza
Yes, my life is food-focused. Maybe it’s normal to say, “chatting with girlfriends over coffee,” but in my life I’ve never had a girlfriend deny girl talk and pizza. From my sister, to my mom, to my extended family, to all the girlfriends I’ve been lucky to have in life, you cannot find a happier me than when I spend 2 hours laughing, affirming, crying, catching up, etc with my girls over some dang good food. There’s nothing more satisfying than hearing something golden coming from your girlfriend’s mouth and being able to scream, “YES EXACTLY!” Anyone with me?
3.That “can’t put the book down” feeling
If you’re not big into reading I understand, but if you are then you know this feeling. The feeling to where you read as close as you can to the page, a little angry that you can’t physically jump inside the story. Or even worse, a little angry that the story isn’t real. Harry Potter girls where ya at? I would LOVE to know your favorite book – if you have time to quickly tell me in the comments I’d love to know!
This hasn’t always been one of my love languages, but it’s certainly a developing one. (If you haven’t read the book I really recommend it!) I love being out running errands and seeing something I know Ryan would love or a friend would love. Receiving gifts is nice, but the intention behind gifts is what makes them special. Little things mean a lot – Starbucks gift cards, new lipstick, or even a card is truly the sweetest.
5.Indulging my sweet tooth
Just a littttttle bit! I’ve always had a sweet tooth and I guess I’m not going to grow out of it? My current favorite sweet thing is vanilla soft serve with rainbow sprinkles. WOW need that right now.
6.When dogs run towards you
Okay this one makes me laugh out loud because of how silly it might be to put this on here. Most of y’all know this, but I’m mega mega obsessed with dogs and seeing a dog run towards you for some love is the CUTEST THING. Like, “You chose me?” I don’t have kids so I’m allowed to think this. We’re waiting until the right time because we’re getting two at once (you won’t be able to convince us otherwise), but we will be SO excited to add to our family with some fluff. That’s mainly how Ryan and I communicate throughout the day is just tagging each other in cute dog pictures on Instagram. I’m now noticing that this point has the longest paragraph at this point so I’ll stop.
7.Filling in my planner
Turning the page onto a fresh week makes my lil’ OCD heart so happy. Being organized every day helps keep me sane. I use this planner from Ink + Volt. If you have questions on which planner is best for you, I’m your girl. Hit me UP, sis!
8.Zero notifications + an empty inbox
This also coincides with the OCD. Because I’m prone to bad anxiety, seeing notifications on my phone makes my chest a little heavy each time – especially emails and texts. I know that’s really strange. It feels really good and freeing to get rid of them!
My belly laughs always seem to include clapping my hands and throwing my head back? Maybe I’ll throw in some pointing and if it’s really intense it will include some involuntary squealing. It’s just the best. I’m thankful for the people in my life that make this happen often.
There may be nothing better – even if it’s not the response you were expecting or wanting. At least you’ve heard from God. It’s really sweet when the answer is what you wanted, though. I’m currently doing the Armor of God study by Priscilla Shirer and I’m learning just how powerful prayer is in our lives. The confidence and reassurance you feel when you’ve heard from God provides peace like nothing else.
What brings you joy? I’d really love to know!
Ryan and I are currently in Asheville, North Carolina so if you have some fun food recommendations send them my way! Have a great weekend!!
