Happy Thursday, gang!
Have you ever been humbled by two puppies? Because I have. In a BIG way.
You probably already know this but we got two puppies a few weeks ago. Our first pup, Waffle, is a dream. He’s so sweet, chill, and empathetic. He sleeps through the night and is just so good. Pancake, who hasn’t earned his own post yet nor allowed me the time to write him a post, is naughty. He’s straight up naughty. We figured out this week that he has Giardia – a parasite – so he’s had CRAZY stomach issues every hour on the hour. He’s also just sort of crazy. He’s going to be a great dog soon, but he needs a lot of training and discipline.
He’s on meds for the parasite and starts puppy training this weekend, but LORD he has totally tested us. Two puppies is never easy, which is why a lot of people don’t choose to do that (I get it.) One pancake is the same amount of work as five Waffles though, you feel?
There are moments where Ryan and I are totally overwhelmed – mourning the free time we used to have. Time when we didn’t smell like pee. Time when we could watch the tv for more than 5 seconds. We didn’t realize how precious our selfish time was until we welcomed these pups into our lives.
We’ve just sort of adjusted into the realization that this is life for awhile and to get out of this phase the fastest, we have to keep putting in the work with these little dudes. We’ve just been totally humbled by them. By two puppies. I know it’s so silly, but I also know that God uses even these experiences to shape us and to challenge us. These dogs + humility is sort of a goofy but entirely real lesson that we’re in and I’m excited to walk through it (and it’s not too bad with some cute fluffs along.)
I’ve been reading these verses on repeat this week. Read them, study the context, and we’ll meet back up about all of this next week!
Here are 10 verses to kickstart our study of humility:
“Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves.” Philippians 2:3 (NLT)

“Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.” Colossians 3:12 (NLT)
“For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love.” Galatians 5:13 (NLT)
“Fear of the Lord teaches wisdom; humility precedes honor.” Proverbs 15:33 (NLT)
“He sat down, called the twelve disciples over to him, and said, “Whoever wants to be first must take last place and be the servant of everyone else.” Mark 9:35 (NLT)
“Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14 (NLT)
“For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.” Luke 14:11 (NLT)
“ But you must not brag about being grafted in to replace the branches that were broken off. You are just a branch, not the root.” Romans 11:18 (NLT)
“My hands have made both heaven and earth;they and everything in them are mine. I, the Lord, have spoken! I will bless those who have humble and contrite hearts, who tremble at my word.” Isaiah 66:2 (NLT)
