Well hi there, 2018!
Y’ALL. Is there really anything better than a fresh start? I love new years – heck I love new weeks – maybe that’s why I’m such a morning person? Anyway, I’m loving this week. There’s just a general sense of hope in the air. I love hearing everyone’s resolutions, seeing all of the organization posts, and reading the 2017 reflections. Yes, 2018 is just another year and this week is just another week, but 2018 holds hope and promise for people who loved 2017 or hated it and I think that’s beautiful.
Per usual, a new month means a new theme on She’s Taylored. If you’re new here – every month we focus on a theme that we apply to our relationships and life in general. We pray over the theme and look to scripture to see what God says about the topic. Having a theme for the month allows us to narrow our focus and give our relationships with our people and the Lord the time and effort they deserve.
The theme for January is courage.
I believe in new beginnings and fresh starts. I believe in resolutions. I believe in making commitments that help us better ourselves. I believe in the people who join a gym in January, start Whole 30, join a dating website, or crack open their bible to Genesis 1 (I’m doing this with my girls – pray for us lol). I think we should all believe in them because they’re taking a chance on themselves and that takes courage. Changing something about yourself is hard. Why else do we text our friends 15 pictures from Pinterest when we think about getting balayage or redecorating our living room? Why else do we screenshot conversations with guys we like when we can’t decide how to respond? Why do we put off opening our bibles and fall asleep before we pray? Because it’s hard and it takes courage. It takes courage to make changes and and say yes to growth.
Answer this question for me. When you think of courage do you think of things like firefighters saving lives or little kids sticking up to bullies? I do! I associate courage with GIANT tasks that deserve movies or at least a segment on the news. My brain doesn’t connect courage to daily actions.
My brain doesn’t connect courage to me.
God does, though. He associates us with the courage of the great characters of the bible, with the courage of our mentors and pastors, and with courage we’d never believe we could possess. Every single one of us is capable of doing incredible things – whether we believe or not. Sometimes all it takes is a little faith and a little courage and God does the rest.
So I want to ask you if you’re willing to have courage this month – are you willing to have courage with your job? With your family? With your spouse? Your friendships? Are you willing to let go of the doubt, fear, or laziness that’s keeping you from your purpose? Are you willing to say YES to change?
It’s hard to choose courage. It’s hard to give up comfort and routine. Change and uncertainty aren’t easy, but the Holy Spirit is standing by waiting to instill every single ounce of courage you need to take a step into God’s purpose for your life.
Even if you aren’t making resolutions, buying a new planner, or creating a new workout plan – give courage a chance this month and let God make changes in your life and in your heart.
January is your month. 2018 is your year.
Praying for you always!

Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you.
