Goodbye February, HELLO MARCH!
I’m not sad to say goodbye to last month. March means spring, sunshine, flowers blooming, Spring Break (not really for me though…R.I.P), and A NEW THEME!
February started out amazing – it saw the birth of She’s Taylored (Hi dream come true!) and a life-changing conference. Then right in the middle my family saw tragedy. So fittingly, the month of March we’re going to focus on Joy – which is exactly what my family found in grief + healing.
So hello, JOY!
I’ve really enjoyed having a theme for the faith-based posts – I’d love to hear feedback about it, too! I chose Joy for March because it seemed fitting for the month that sort of emerges out of the winter into sunshine (Dallas decided to skip winter this year). It’s also one of the few months in Texas that you aren’t melting from the heat – help us, Lord. *insert the wahhh face emoji*
But more than that – Joy is so much more than a feeling and I think is often misinterpreted. Joy is really hard sometimes. I think with a better understanding of it we can choose it more often and see how impactful it is to actually choose joy.
“This is the day that the Lord has made;
let us rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24
Joy is a choice. It’s not a feeling. It’s a decision that will always leave you with so much more than any feeling. That’s what makes it so challenging. I don’t feel joy when I wake up in the morning. Even if I’m waking up to head to the airport for some amazing trip or to the smell of pancakes – I don’t feel joy in those first moments. All I’m initially thinking is, “Wow this bed though.” Sometimes that lasts two seconds, but sometimes it lasts all day, you feel me?
That’s when you stop and choose it. Every time I pause and pray for a minute or just say, “Thank you, God” or force myself to be aware of something beautiful I see, my day turns around and I feel it in that moment – Joy.
I know there are straight up bad days and bad circumstances that don’t seem to end – we’ll talk more about that later this month.
For now, let’s keep it simple and focus on what Joy is.
Joy is a choice.
Joy is hope.
Joy is strength.
Joy is righteous.
Joy is everlasting.
Joy brings growth.
Joy brings thankfulness.
Joy brings peace.
Joy is not a feeling, sister. Joy is not happiness. Joy is far greater than happiness.
Don’t chase happiness, choose joy.
That sounds like some cheesy slogan but we’re rollin’ with it. Joy comes from the Lord, y’all. That’s the simple truth. If you’re in this with me, let’s ask ourselves what brings us joy this month. Let’s pursue those things. Let’s also ask ourselves what makes us happy and if those things are actually worth pursuing – or if they’re taking up room for something better, deeper.
Now, I can’t ignore the fact that this post is featuring Joy Macarons! Hands down one of the cutest places in Dallas and with equally as cute and delicious macarons. They have the yummiest flavors and MACARON ICE CREAM SANDWICHES. They’re possibly sent from the Lord above. Just kidding. But maybe though?
They have two locations in Dallas so you should definitely go! Grab a girlfriend or ya main boo. All of the cutie little calligraphy pictures are from my friend, Megan! She’s beyond talented – you can see more of her cuteness here and on her Instagram @megbroyles.
Thanks so much for reading – it means the world!
HAPPY MARCH, Y’ALL!
