Okay it’s time for some honesty. We’re 8 days into December and 8 days into the theme of peace and advent and I’m STRUGGLING with peace. It’s not just the holidays, either. Like I can’t just dump everything on Christmas. Part of it is of course – the gift giving, the events, the coordinating. It’s a lot. It’s all fun and exactly what you want to be doing, but my goodness my little anxious heart is fighting, y’all!
A large part of my issue is tied between two things: my personality and my inability to fight.
My personality is really type-A. I love my to-do lists, I love getting stuff done, and I don’t chill very well. Rest can be tough, but I know that being “busy” isn’t something to be proud of and I’m self-aware enough to know when I need to settle down. It’s pretty tough though, I feel like I’m going against my basic instincts during times like the holidays. My selfish behavior is really tied to my need to get things done. I tend to become “one” with my to-do list and forget to make the Lord and Ryan my top priorities. So Caitlin + the Holidays can be rough. BUT I’m not here to deliver any excuses and going into December I made it a goal to make peace my priority and I’ll continue to do so. Bring on the change, Lord!
The second part of my current issue is that I think it took me awhile to learn that in certain seasons you have to fight for peace. Peace doesn’t always come easy! You might have to say no to certain events that you really want to attend. You might have to say no to family members. You might have to wake up 30 minutes earlier to just sit and read God’s word. You might have to become a more organized person for a little while. You might have to ask for help – a tough one. Sometimes we’re given calm afternoons that are bursting with obvious peace and sometimes you don’t one of those for months. Sometimes you have fight for it. I’m learning that this season.
So let me ask you again: What’s keeping you from peace?
Are you getting in your own way? Are you unsure how to even have peace (see this post here for some help on that one)? Is there something huge going on in your life that just can’t seem to end? What is it? Here what I know. Peace is possible – no matter what. Peace is something that is possible daily. Peace is available to anyone. Sometimes you have to get out of your own way. Sometimes you have to fight for it. Here’s something else I know and want you to know, heck MEMORIZE today,
“The Lord gives strength to his people; the Lord blesses his people with peace.” Psalm 29:11
Have a wonderful weekend and make peace a priority today, friends.
p.s. I think these tiny peppers are the cutest things I’ve ever seen.
